  • Organisation
    • A.P.Cooperative Oilseeds Growers’ Federation Ltd., was registered under Cooperative Societies Act 1964 and started its operations during the year 1983. Andhra Pradesh was one of the Seven States considered for implementation of Vegetable Oils project by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The objective of the project was to bring about enhancement of production of oilseeds so as to lessen the gap between demand and supply of edible oils. Initially, the Federation adopted two tier structure i.e., State level and village level growers Cooperative Societies for implementation of project.
    • In the first phase, the Federation covered six districts in the State i.e., Mahaboobnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam, Krishna, Guntur & Prakasham. In the second phase, five more districts were covered which included Kurnool, Kadapa, Anantapur, Chittoor & Nellore. The entire project was funded by NDDB for promoting primary societies, extension programmers and establishment of processing units.
    • During the year 1992-93, the Federation adopted three tier structure on the directions of NDDB. Under the structure, two Regional Unions were formed and the village Oilseeds Cooperative Societies were affiliated to the Unions and the unions were in turn affiliated to the Federation. Later, its Unions were liquidated due to huge accumulated losses. Presently, the Federation is having 159 cadre strength.
    • Functions
    • The APOILFED is having several activities like Oil Palm Development, Procurement & Distribution of Oilseeds, Sale of edible oils, etc.
    • The functions of the above activities are as follows:-
    • OIL PALM DEVELOPMENT
    • APOILFED initiated Oil Palm Development activity in the year 1990 and took pioneering step in the state of Andhra Pradesh by establishing nurseries and a first Pilot Palm Oil Mill of 1 TPH capacity during the year 1992 to inspire the farming community to take up Oil Palm cultivation in large scale. APOILFED has taken right decision in diversifying its activities into oil palm during 1990 when NDDB recommended a 3 tier structure for the Federation. It has taken lead in the establishment of oil palm nurseries and processing units to promote oil palm cultivation. Since then, it has been playing a significant role in the development of oil palm in the state.
    • Oil palm is the highest oil yielding plantation that yields upto 4-5 Tons of oil per hectare as against 0.5 to 1.0 Ton oil per hectare from traditional oil seed crops like groundnut, sunflower, sesame etc.
    • SUPPLY OF QUALITY SEEDLINGS
    • The main activity under oil palm development is the procurement of sprouts from foreign and domestic sources and nurturing them in the nurseries for about 8-12 months before they are being supplied to the farmers. APOILFED has been importing sprouts of genetically improved Tenera from Costa Rica and other reliable sources identified by the Department of Horticulture. Originally four nurseries were managed by APOILFED, one each in Nellore, West Godavari, East Godavari and Khammam Districts. The central nursery is located at Aswaraopet Town limits in Khammam District. The nursery site is of 53 acres extent with very good ground water potential and necessary infrastructure. The subsidy extended by the Government to farmers is Rs.60/-and Rs.50/- per seedling for imported and indigenous seedlings respectively. Seedlings distributed in the earlier period are given in the table given below.
    • PROCUREMENT OF FRESH FRUIT BUNCHES (FFB).
    • The Oil Palm Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) are highly perishable and they have to be processed immediately after the harvest. Therefore procurement and their transportation to the processing units play a crucial role in the promotion of oil palm. Federation collects FFBs from the farmers through its notified collection centers. Collection centers are opened based on the arrivals and farmer’s convenience. Farmers within the radius of 20 KMs bring their FFB to the collection centers. The procured FFB at those centers gets transported to the processing units by the transport agents appointed by the Federation. FFB procurement details of the last few years are shown in the below mentioned Table.
    • Sale of Edible Oils.
    • The APOILFED launched marketing of the following Refined edible oils in the consumer packs in the year 1984-85 under the brand name of VIJAYA. The following seven edible oils are distributed throughout the State:-
